Aussie Nugget
Just need to share this with people who would appreciate it.
A friend of mine has been showing interest that I have been collecting 999 fine gold coins as I can pick them up at reasonable cost I shared with her why their value has increased and why it will continue to do so. She rang me excited the other day saying she wants to show me her purchase of gold so when I front up yesterday she presents me with a  one Kilo Australian nugget pure gold I was blown away just seeing and holding it. |
Re: Aussie Nugget
Holy crap. That'a lot of gold in a very nice, very large coin.
I'm still wrestling with whether or not to start buying larger items. There are pros and cons, but for now, I think I'll stick to multiple 1 oz coins. I'm eyeing the 1 kilo silver Kookaburra though. Checked again today though-- no local shops have them nor have ever had them. Let's see if we can't find a picture of the 1 Kilo nugget: http://www.perthmint.com.au/gc/depos...oldbullion.jpg |
Re: Aussie Nugget
I have been thinking about larger coins too - tho frankly, I can't afford a kilo of gold! (Is your friend single? Will she marry a married man with killer parrot? )
Being a Chinese Dragon, I was actually thinking about a kilo of silver of the Australian Lunar Dragon......and I thought, the kilo is just over 3 times the amount of the 10 oz lunar coin, but its only about 1 inch wider than the 10 oz, so not THAT much bigger. Then I thought, the 10 oz is easier to cash in or sell IF I have to sell it! 10 oz is more a standard, people can deal with it easier. Not sure if I am thinking it all out right - but that was the thought........ When it comes to 32 oz of gold - it might be harder to sell it - but till then - it sure is nice to look at!!! |

Re: Aussie Nugget
Gday guys-I am a newb to this forum, but am stoked to have stumbled across it!! I was curiuos as to why you all favoured numismatics over raw bullion? The spread of a 1 kilo coin to A 1 kilo bar is considerable, and you need a increase of about 10-20% to break even,so is there another advantage that I am unfamiliar with?? I hold only bullion, and may move into coins if there is another way to protect my little stash... Cheers :withstupi

Lord knows, we don't all favor numismatics - in fact, I think only a small percentage are into them at all. If one only has a few ounces, then bullion is far better - however, once you have a few ounces, then numismatics can become attractive. Looking at the same coin over and over can become a bit boring - so, speaking only for myself, I have a few numismatic coins cause they do go up in value (and when bullion comes down they sometimes hold their value a hair better)........but they also give you some visual variation. Also - if one knows what they are doing, numismatic coins can be a great investment and a hedge against possible confiscation (tho that's a huge topic in itself!) The Aussie Lunar series is a goreous set, the artwork different in silver and gold, and there are only a few of them (30,000 each of the gold) and so they have a greater premium. Hope that made sense....... Cheers! |
